It was a few days before RMAF 2016. I was standing on the edge of a cliff, literally a few inches from the edge, camera ready, at Dead Horse State Park in Utah. It was early in the morning and the sun was just beginning to set the cliffs on fire bringing out that iron oxide rusty, orangish, vermillion color that the desert is known for. I took the first shot and got lost in what I was doing.
Dominique Brulhart from Merging Technologies and his wife Irene were there with me. Dom, who loves to take pictures in B&W seems to find a way to be everywhere all at once as he captures the sunrise. Irene, who appears to have more sense than either Dom or I is sitting comfortably in a chair safely away from the cliff edge, watching the sunrise and you can tell she is enthralled with the scene. She is wrapped in all the spare coats and scarves we can muster. Yes, it’s cold out that early in the morning.
I met Dom & Irene at the 2015 RMAF. Wonderfull people. We hit if off well enough to invite them to accompany me on one of my multi-week photo expeditions out to the desert if they had time one day. Some of my favorite spots are in the southwest part of the US. And sure enough a few days before RMAF 2016 Dom contacts me and says we will be driving down from Salt Lake City, any chance we can meet up? I said sure, come on down. We only spent a couple of days together before they had to move on to the show. Me, I wasn’t going anywhere, as soon as they were on their way I was headed out to the desert for several days to see what I could see.
But during that time we spent together we shared a few meals, we had a good laugh as we told mostly true stories, about places we had been, things we had done, and talked about a lot of other things including Merging Technologies. As I recall, the Merging + NADAC and the Merging + Power as a group were on the drawing board at that time. Nice to see how well that worked out here a couple years later.
As I mentioned earlier, along with the Merging + Player these are the components we will be playing at Axpona 2018. If you are at the show it would be worth your while to come by and listen and chat with Fraser Jones of Independent Audio, the distributer for both the Pro line as well as the consumer line of Merging Technologies products in the US ( email@example.com ) and Chris Hollebone, the sales and marketing manager for Merging Technologies ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) who will be flying in from the UK. Both very pleasant people to have a conversation with. And yes we have put together quite the collection of NativeDSD DSD256 music for this show for you to listen to. Another good reason to come by and say hi.
Well folks, the show is nigh upon us. I’m not sure how much more time I have available to write or tell stories. The thought is to create a running account of things as they transpire in the Merging Technologies room at the show. Whether I’ll have time to do this I just don’t know. We will see.
All the best to all of you who have endured my scribblings. Come by room 1540 if your at the show and say hi.
