Dietrich Buxtehude: Membra Jesu Nostri – Bachsolisten Seoul Apr 14 by Jung-Hoon Choi, in Producer's Notes, Recording Reports

This is a new album of Bachsolisten Seoul, one of the representative groups of Baroque music in South Korea. ‘Membra Jesu Nostri’, BuxWV75 is the music composed by Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) who pursued his musical career in a small village in norther Germany, Lubeck.

Buxtehude is one of the most important organists and composers in Germany of the 17th century. He is known to have composed Baroque vocal music, such as cantatas and oratorios, along with the instrumental music including the organ pieces. ‘Membra Jesu Nostri’ featured on this album is one of his masterpieces, consisting of a cycle of cantatas with the Latin lyrics.

This album was recorded at the Olympus Hall and successfully caught the natural sound of the hall, by using 3 PZM microphones as a main, several spot microphones for each instrument with the smallest gain level, and lastly two omni-cardioid microphones for the ambiance, located behind the back seat.
